Lives
transformed, for givers and getters.
Nothing
touches the human heart in quite the way as helping
others.
Basket
Brigade recipients are identified through local agencies as
families who are genuinely in need, you know your efforts go
directly to making difference where it matters. Through giving you
help capture the true spirit Christmas for recipients…and for
yourself.

The last
couple of years my family and I have been involved in the grand
efforts of the Melbourne Basket Brigade. This is an amazing and
precious experience, and one that we all have ongoing commitment
to.
Jet (6
years) says, “Dropping the big boxes at the doors was the best
part. All the people were so happy to get a box with all that stuff
in it.”
Tasha (4
years) adds, “We helped wrap all the presents for all the kids and
it was fun.” Soul (3 years) enthuses, “Oh yer!!!” to the question
"Do you want to do it again?"
I will
never forget the first time I helped deliver. My friend and I cried
tears of joy to see such gratitude from the families. We couldn’t
wait to get to the next door. My husband says, “It was very
fulfilling to provide a glimmer of hope and some change to people's
lives.” It’s a fun day for us all. It brings us closer together as
a family and realising that we can be part of creating such a gift
to so many at Christmas is priceless!

For
Tracy and me, the Melbourne Basket Brigade has meant a huge boost
to our Christmas budget for the
past couple of years. With five kids at primary school, we struggle
to get by all year. I work two jobs and Tracy works as well. We
only just make the grade with rent, food, monthly bills, school
uniforms and other necessities. There’s rarely any left over for
luxuries.
We used
to dread Christmas time and trying to make it special for the kids.
We always felt we were letting them down. The Basket Brigade has
changed that
for us.
Tracy says. “I was overwhelmed when a kind family arrived at our
door bearing all sorts of goodies. Our kids couldn’t believe people
could be so kind.” Robert
(8 years) remembers, “They came with baskets full of food and bags
of gifts for all of us. Everything was wrapped, like real Christmas
presents!” Lucy (6 years)
says, “It was like Santa coming in the day time, but better. Mum
cried, but she said she was happy.” The gesture really made a
difference to our Christmas.
Best of all, it didn’t feel like a hand-out. It just felt like one
family helping out another. We hope one day we can do the same for
someone else.
